Dear Teacher, I just want to let you know about the amazing educational tools that I have been using as on Classportal.net. Classportal.net is a service provided by California Education Alliance (CEA), a 501c3 nonprofit educational organization. One of their goals is to promote technology integration with education by making web tools available to teachers, students, and parents. One of the best tools at Classportal.net is the MyTeacher Web tool. With MyTeacher, I can easily create a professional Flash-based website without having to learn how to program or to code in html. MyTeacher website gives me the ability to update in real-time class information, post homework, and upload files that would have otherwise eat into my limited Xerox budget. With MyTeacher website, I can keep parents informed of class progress and encourage them to get more involved in their child's academics. Syllabi that used to take up hundreds of Xerox copies and often trampled on the ground are now available to everyone in a neat downloadable format. Making last minute changes to handouts no longer means hundreds of wasted copies; with a few clicks of a mouse, I can upload the updated file onto the website. Another wonderful Classportal.net tool is the free tutoring forum provided by CEA. In additional to after school office hours, I can now help students from the comfort of my own home. The forum is also an excellent way to create community and to answer frequently asked questions from parents. CEA also provides volunteers who can help me tutor my students when I'm not available. Classportal.net is a free service available exclusively to CEA members. While the tutoring forum is open to general members, MyTeacher web and other tools still in development are reserved for those with a CEA educator membership. I highly recommend you to take advantage of this opportunity and sign up for the educator membership for only $75 per year.
